There were similar posts made by other users that I personally saw as non-abusive and non-aggressive (though straightforward) before they were deleted. Get off line and engage if you are called to. Real work happens here, in real life, on the ground. Anyone looking to Instagram for guidance is looking for lazy activism and lip service. This is a beautiful opportunity for individual responsibility. I can only hope this may be a lesson to you to not look to very very very minor celebrities such as myself in this or any time, but look to yourself instead for the action you wish to see. Social media is about as far from real life as you can get. And finally, you assume that what a human does online represents inaction in their real life. I would not insult you by telling you what you already know. And I assume that my friends and followers do not have to be told not to be racist. You are assuming I have more wisdom and resources than you. Please please do better if you are truly an ally to any, especially those who have less privilege than you. And anyth ing short of that is unacceptable to the person you have created for fans to see. You NEED to be posting about and encouraging others to do, to give, and to help. Your entire brand is about giving a voice to the oppressed and not being silenced. Now is the time to speak in any way and declare open support, even when the community you’re supporting isn’t one you typically focus on. All week I have waited for you to give loud support, the way you did during the women’s march, and during numerous other issues, so I could look to you and say “See everyone, this is a good influential person using their platform to spread awareness.” And yet you didn’t say anything. I desperately love you and I have been your fan for decades. There are over 100 comments on the post, and most of them are threads of fans discussing their different view points on the issue. Instead, i will take this moment to be encouraged and inspired by YOU, whom I know support each other, heal each other, stand up for each other, and aren’t afraid to love, even in the depths of darkness. You don’t need to be reminded or preached at to do so by the likes of me, and thus I wouldn’t dare. And then I realized that, if there is even *one* of you who needs to be reminded that transformation is possible, that is is never too late for change, then this is for you… I am so honored to get to share this spiritual moment with you, but I do want to honor YOU as well by saying that I *know* that ALL of you have always marched in any way you could for love and light and all that is right and just. I really didn’t want to do Magic Monday today, because I didn’t want any attention on me or my accounts when it should be elsewhere. Additionally, if you have corrections, suggestions, or additions you want to be considered for this article, please submit them to the blog or reach out to me at Magic Monday ()ĮA had been quiet on socials regarding the Black Lives Matter movement until she referenced her own silence in a Magic Monday post.
